I have lived in Dublin my entire life, and not once had I ever strolled around the infamous German Village. After seeing my Instagram newsfeed bombarded with pictures of the obviously popular book store called “The Book Loft”, I could not go any longer without visiting to see what all of the hype was about. My boyfriend had never been to the area either, so we decided a couple of days ago we would drive down together and make it a little date day. Before even noticing the Book Loft (which was one of the main reasons we had decided to come), we entered into German Village and instantly began admiring all the beautiful and unique brick houses and buildings. Tucked into the gorgeous architecture, we spotted a handful of coffee and tea shops. If you know anything about my boyfriend and I, it is that we absolutely LOVE to try out new restaurants – and we also love our tea & coffee. This quaint little area felt so relaxing and super different from the areas we are used to driving down and visiting for date days- such as the Short North or High Street. After stopping by one of the tea boutiques and getting our Black Iced Tea to share, we headed towards the Book Loft. Just walking up to the opening of the store was an experience in itself. The landscaping was to die for. Flowers and wooden benches in every direction you looked. Books were overflowing from out of the store to the outside, strategically placed on bookshelves by Authors name or genre. Before even entering the store, I of course got side tracked by a clearance section that was calling my name. The first book that caught my eye was titled “A Dog’s Purpose” by W. Bruce Cameron. I am a sucker for anything animal related and the title struck me as very interesting. I read the back of it and knew I could not pass this one up. It seems that it is going to be from a dog’s perspective as he tries to find his purpose for life. I hate to admit it, but I rarely ever actually sit down and read. It is quite sad, really. Our generation is stuck in technology and a lot of people cannot find peace and happiness in reading a book. I, for one, can. I just need to slowly teach myself to put down my phone and pick up a book. Hopefully, with the help of “A Dog’s Purpose” that will come easy.
After exploring through the 32 rooms (yes, I assume this is why the Book Loft is so darn famous…there are 32 freaking rooms!), I came across another book that someone who acts a mentor for me highly suggested I read. “Think & Grow Rich” is by Napoleon Hill and talks about how people like Andrew Carnegie, Henry Ford and John D Rockefeller became the super achievers they were. After skimming through some of the pages to get an overview of how I will be taught, it seems that it is going to be a step by step (but obviously very in depth) guide on how to become successful. I listen to my mentors so I have faith this book will serve as some help for me in creating my name and my business. I guess we will just have to wait and see!
Overall, my Book Loft experience was totally amazing. From the Black Iced Tea to the millions of books that surrounded me and my boyfriend and screamed our names, calling for us to open them- I had an absolute, geeked-out blast. Every time I visit a new area or place, especially one like German Village, I can’t help but let my creative juices flow. I am excited to indulge myself in my new finds, tell you all about them, and head back to the Book Loft to get some more.
Goodbye smart phone, hello books!
