First, I have to apologize for being MIA this past month. There are far too many reasons behind the absence for me to sit on here and ramble, but I did learn a ton of lessons that I cannot wait to share with you No Dress Coder’s throughout my posts on here.
Today, I want to ask you all a very important question; something you probably don’t think about on a day-to-day basis. Who do you surround yourself with? Who’s in your close kept circle? And…why?
Alright, now that you’ve thought all that through, tell me… what are they like?
To say the absolute least, this past month or so was one hell of an emotional rollercoaster. Along with the transition from high school to summer to college, I had some big decisions I was struggling with making. If I can describe to you at all what I was going through, here is the description I think fits best:
Imagine having a chess board in front of you and all the pieces perfectly in place; everything is exactly where you want them to be. Now, imagine somebody coming and flipping over the chess board. All of the perfectly placed pieces go flying everywhere.
Hopefully now you have a better understanding of how I’ve been feeling.
Although I came to the realization that I had to make this decision for myself, and no one else, throughout the journey of coming to my answer I fortunately had a ton of people willing to help me make it there.
The amount of amazing people that took time out of their days to meet up and chat with me, or even to message me over Facebook for an hour or two, was overwhelming. Before this troublesome past month, I never would have known how many people really do care for me.
Not only did I get to see how many cared, but I also saw how many truly want to see me succeed. Some were straight forward, giving me their advice and their opinions. Others sat and listened…really, really listened to me and what I was going through. Some even sympathized and told me their stories of how they got to where they are now. Every single person I talked to impacted me differently. Whether leaving the conversation made me think, made me feel secure, made me question, made me happy- whatever it was, I left each and every one of them impacted in some way, shape or form.
My point to all this is, don’t just stop at surrounding yourself with positive people. Make sure the positive people are GREAT people. People that truly care about you and love you. People that will be honest and straight up with you. Make sure they will continue to push you. Place yourself around people that will always be there to help you up when you are knocked down.
Now, I am starting to realize how blessed I am to have experienced such a struggle this past month. Even though it felt like hell on earth and it literally tore me apart and ate at me, God showed me how strong I can be and how he has blessed me with people that will encourage me to be so. Because of it, I’ve realized just how many people I have by my side. I have people believing in me, watching over me, guiding me, and helping me.
To close this out, I would like to thank each and every one of you that took time out of your day to help me. Whatever you did, whether it was listen, coach, sympathize or question- you helped me in some way, shape or form. You know who you are and I can’t begin to thank any of you enough. You truly made this paralyzing experience a blessing in disguise.
